Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium in their IPL 2026 clash on Sunday.

Returning to familiar conditions after a shaky run, MI will look to capitalise on home advantage. Despite registering a rare winning start to their campaign with a six-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders, the five-time champions have struggled since, suffering heavy defeats in both away games. They currently sit eighth on the points table with a net run rate of -0.715.

RCB, the defending champions, have had a steadier start with two wins from three matches and will aim to regain momentum after their recent setback.

Much of the spotlight will be on Virat Kohli, who has been in excellent touch with 129 runs in three matches at an average of 64.50 and a strike rate of 179.17, including a half-century. MI will rely on Rohit Sharma, who has scored 118 runs in three outings at a strike rate of 168.57, to anchor their response.

The fixture has historically favoured Mumbai, who lead the head-to-head 21-14. However, recent contests have been closely fought, with RCB winning three of the last five encounters.

Adding an intriguing subplot, Tim David returns to the Wankhede, this time in RCB colours against his former franchise. Since joining Bengaluru in 2025, he has emerged as one of the league’s most destructive finishers, boasting a remarkable death-overs strike rate of 236.58 among players with at least 40 balls faced.
